All About the Club



What is GYC


Mixed junior curling club for ages 8 to 21. Learn from qualified coaches, make friends, play competitions. Training and games at Greenacres Curling Rink (postcode PA9 1DE) on Bowfield Road near Howwood. Run by a committee of volunteer parents, coaches and GYC curlers. All skill levels from absolute beginner to advanced competitor are accommodated at all sessions – coaches tailor the sessions appropriate to skills to enable learning, challenge and fun.

Events and Competitions

Regular curling sessions: Mondays 15:30pm to 17:30pm; Sundays 9:45am to 11:45am
Family Christmas curling party: Curlers, family and friends welcome, COVID restrictions permitting.
Other competitions in which our members may curl include -

West of Scotland junior league: Saturdays, Oct. 12, 2019, Feb. 15 and March 14, 2020
Skill awards in six progressive levels: skills developed during sessions, assessments take place in March

Renfrewshire 12th Province (Shand Harvey, Barratt Cup, Points, Ramshead); Junior Divisions (Murrayfield Edinburgh)

Fees and costs


Annual subscription due at season start in October: £12 / curler payable direct to GYC (includes GYC club sub £5 and Scottish Curling membership £7); this fee can be paid by cheque, cash or, electronically to our GYC bank account
(Account details are available from Elma ). £18 / curler also required - payable direct to Greenacres Ice Rink
Ice Fees due per session before going on the ice: £5 / curler Mondays; £6 on Sundays

Equipment

GYC has what is needed to start curling without buying specialised curling equipment
Loose or stretchy warm clothing suffices to start; club logo tops available for purchase
Clean flat-soled trainers ok to start. Greenacres has limited number of curling shoes for daily loan.
GYC has a limited supply of sliding equipment and brushes for daily loan.
