Fellow Curlers,

As summer slides to an end, the nights start to draw in and before winter strikes it’s time for our thoughts to curl round to the new season which is sweeping its way towards us. (Sorry, couldn’t resist it).

Greenacres Young Curlers is 40 years old this year and there is plenty to look forward to. To celebrate this milestone a group has been working to arrange a celebration weekend competition and grand banquet. This will take place over the weekend 27th to 29th September. The event is open to all Greenacres Young Curlers, past and present. If you have not already signed up please visit the link to the organising committees web page and get your entry in as soon as possible. Junior members enjoy a healthy discount and it would be great to see as many current junior members there as possible. Being a great curler is not a requirement, they even asked me to play!!! See more details by clicking on the GYC40 menu items on the left.

Following a very successful inaugural mixed doubles league last season we look forward to contesting this again this year. The Bowfield Bowl is an amazing trophy and I am sure that we will have some cracking prizes for the winners to take home. We have made every effort to ensure that the dates we have planned for the league avoid all junior completions listed on Scottish Curling (u14,u17 and u21) and hope to have as many sign ups for this as possible. We will partner our more accomplished players with newer members so everyone has an equal chance of winning. Get your names in as soon as possible.

We will of course still be welcoming new and existing members to come along to coaching throughout the season where we will be working towards skills awards. We have had great success with these in previous years and we have some really talented players amongst us now. It gives the coaches great pleasure to see the talent grow, but we always need more help from new coaches. If you know anyone who would like to get involved in the coaching please let us know.

We will also be running the West of Scotland League again this year. The competition, designed for our younger members with a team average age of no more than 15, is held over three weekends with clubs from 4 rinks playing in league format. This was wonderful success last year with GYC winning on a dramatic last stone of the competition! Once again let us know if you would like to play.

Finally please see attached a list of the fixtures for the coming year. This includes time allocated to Skills Awards, the Bowfield Bowl doubles and the West of Scotland League.

We start our normal sessions on Sunday 6th October at 10:00 on the ice. Look forward to seeing you there!

Yours in Curling.
